This week marks the halfway point of the Spring ‘21 One Room Challenge, yikes! Just typing that is giving me some anxiety. Why does it always feel like the passing of time is accelerated during the ORC? Last week we installed some new skylights in the bathroom, and this week it’s all about tiling and lighting.

Here’s a quick reminder of the “before” in case you are just joining us.
We were able to get the bathtub surround waterproofed and started on the tile, yippee! That ugly red stuff is the waterproofing in case you’re wondering, I can’t wait to cover it up with tile.
Thank you to Zia Tile for gifting us the Casablanca Zellige tile for the shower and the Adobe Cotto Hex tile for the floor, they are absolutely beautiful and pair so well together. The variation of the Cotto tile gives it this incredible depth that I am in love with. I wanted to keep the tile selection along the lines of more of a textured, handmade look to balance out the structure of the tub and more modern vanity. I went with a non traditional pattern on the walls to make it a little more interesting. Kicking myself in the butt right now for making two niches there on the left (a tiler’s worst nightmare).
The B E D R O O M
This week we made some good progress in the bedroom. Our new bedside tables arrived, as well as our new canopy bed frame. We started to install our stylish Legrand switches from the adorne Collection (Legrand is an official sponsor of the ORC) which just make such a big difference. They come in a lot of pretty colors and you can mix and match the colors + paddle switches. We used the same adorne Collection in our kitchen too. It’s the details that can really elevate a space, ya know?
And as much as he didn’t want to, Mike reluctantly moved that light switch over to the left like 4 inches, just so it wouldn’t be over the bedside table so much. It looks much better and was worth (to me) all that drywall patching.
Hudson Valley Lighting Group is another official sponsor of the ORC and I freaking love their fixtures so much so I was thrilled to get a chance to work with them. I spent HOURS scouring over each light, and after much agonizing decided on these beautiful Wayne Sconces for a few reasons. First, I wanted a wall sconce that had a fabric shade to add some softness over the metal bedside tables. Second, I wanted a wall light that had an on/off switch on each light, a nice luxury to have.
The custom made white oak vanity arrived for the bathroom which is incredibly exciting because it means we can get it installed and then the fabricator can come and take measurements for the quartz countertop. I wanted inset drawers and of course, white oak. We’re doing a large 8” drop ledge for the vanity, I’m so excited about it! Fingers cross we can get this thing mounted this weekend so we don’t fall behind with our timeline.
Coming up N E X T
Overall, this week we made a ton of great progress with the tile in the bathroom, which is huge. Coming up next we will grout the tile floor, finishing tiling the shower, and then install the vanity. We need to get the shower tile done ASAP so we can schedule the plumber to come install the shower fixture. We still have a bit of electrical to do: chandelier in bedroom, wall sconces in bathroom, and update all of the outlets.
And I’m 14 weeks this week! Starting to feel a little better but have my bad days here and there. A little belly is started to show but mostly I still just look bloated hehe. Alright, catch you in stories! And don’t forget to check out the other Featured Designers below.
